Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

  • Day: This is the most important day for your success! You will take a day hike towards the base of Mawenzi Peak, reaching an altitude of around 4,100m. This process helps your body adapt to the reduced oxygen levels before descending back to sleep at Horombo Hut.

FAQ

Why 6 Days?

The 6-day Marangu route has a much higher success rate than the 5-day version due to the essential acclimatization day.

Hut Facilities

The huts are basic but provide shelter from the elements. Beds are bunk-style with mattresses.

Physical Fitness

A very good level of physical fitness is mandatory. Begin a training regimen months in advance.

Altitude Sickness

This is the primary reason for failure. Listen to your guide, hike “pole pole” (slowly slowly), and stay hydrated.
