What to Pack

  • Warm Clothing: The Ngorongoro crater rim is very cold at night (can be near freezing). Pack a fleece, beanie, and gloves.
  • Sleeping Bag: Essential for the cold nights (3-4 season rating recommended).
  • Lightweight Clothing: For the warm days in the Serengeti.
  • Sturdy Shoes: For moving around the campsite.
  • Headlamp/Flashlight: Crucial for navigating the campsite at night.
  • Binoculars and Camera: With extra batteries and memory cards.
  • Power Bank: Charging is unavailable at campsites.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Central Serengeti

  • Morning (7:30 AM – 12:00 PM): Pick up from your hotel in Arusha. Drive towards the Serengeti, with a stop at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area viewpoint for spectacular photos.
  • Lunch (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM): Picnic lunch at the Naabi Hill Gate, the main entrance to the Serengeti. Here you can complete entry formalities and enjoy your first views of the endless plains.
  • Afternoon (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM): Begin your first game drive en route to your public campsite in the Seronera River Valley. This area is the heart of the Serengeti and is rich with wildlife year-round.
  • Evening (5:30 PM onwards): Arrive at the public campsite. Our crew will have your tents set up. Enjoy a hearty dinner under the vast African sky, listening to the sounds of the night.

       Accommodation: Basic Public Campsite (e.g., Seronera)

       Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Full Day Exploring Central Serengeti

  • Full Day (6:30 AM – 6:00 PM): After an early breakfast, embark on a full day of game viewing. With a packed lunch, you will venture deep into the Seronera Valley.
  • Morning: Focus on predator activity. The Seronera Valley is famous for its high density of lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Your guide will search areas known for these magnificent cats.
  • Afternoon: Explore different habitats, from the kopjes (rocky outcrops) where lions often bask to the rivers lined with hippos and crocodiles. This is your day to truly absorb the scale and beauty of the Serengeti.
  • Evening: Return to the same campsite for dinner and overnight, with even more incredible stories to share.

       Accommodation: Basic Public Campsite

       Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Rim

  • Morning (7:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Enjoy a final, leisurely game drive in the Serengeti as you make your way out of the park. This is your last chance to spot anything you may have missed.
  • Lunch (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM): Picnic lunch at a scenic spot.
  • Afternoon (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Drive back towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ascending the crater rim.
  • Evening (4:30 PM onwards): Check into your budget campsite on the Ngorongoro Crater Rim. The temperatures here are much cooler, so you’ll appreciate your warm layers. Prepare for your crater descent tomorrow.

       Accommodation: Simba Public Campsite (or similar on the crater rim)

       Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Tour to Arusha

  • Morning (6:00 AM – 7:30 AM): Early breakfast and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive on the crater floor. This is a fantastic finale, offering a high chance of seeing the Big Five, including the endangered black rhino.
  • Late Morning (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM): Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Ngoitoktok picnic site near the hippo pool.
  • Afternoon (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM): Ascend from the crater and begin the journey back to Arusha.
  • Evening (5:00 PM – 6:00 PM): Drop-off at your hotel in Arusha.

Important Notes

Great Migration

The location of the wildebeest herds varies seasonally (Dec-July in Seronera/South, Aug-Oct in North). This itinerary focuses on Central Serengeti for reliable year-round wildlife.

This is a Participatory Camping Safari

The crew handles all camp chores, but you must bring your own sleeping bag and be prepared for basic facilities (shared bathrooms).
